Writing in Government: The Typeset 2020 State of Writing Report

Session Overview

Sarah Mitchell, Founder and Director of Typeset, reveals her key findings from the 2020 State of Writing global survey. In this survey, she sought to ascertain how professional communicators communicate effectively and how they use writing to achieve their goals. In this presentation, Sarah examines tips and tricks from writers that came to light in this piece of research.

There were three key findings from the survey which Sarah uses to guide her final recommendations to writers and content creators. Of the most concern was that communicators said that they lacked effective quality control in their writing process but were often unwilling to do anything about it. This attitude of ‘ploughing ahead’ was pervasive throughout the study.

To conclude, Sarah provides her recommendations for how writers can take steps to improve their communications. For example, she advocates for more oversight and superior writer effectiveness training. For all content creators, this is essential information on how to improve your writing.
