Financial Wellness in a Post Pandemic Era

Session Overview

In this presentation, Senior Account Manager at Pollinate, Beattie Green, explores how government, the finance industry and leaders generally can contribute to improving our wellbeing post COVID-19.

Beattie draws upon extensive research from Pollinate in their ‘Pulse’ surveys to draw a picture of how Australians have experienced the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly from a financial perspective.

Beattie reveals that for the first time ever the economy, at the start of 2020, overtook both the environment and society as the major concern for Australians. According to Pollinate research, 47% of Australians say they are spending less during the pandemic.

Beattie finds that people are seeking empathy and understanding from leaders, both in the private sector and the public sector. Australians want their leaders to be honest, knowledgeable, compassionate and committed.

Government messaging that prioritises those values will resonate with people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The finance industry can play an important role in helping Australians feel financially secure, Beattie says. By adopting a leadership role during the 2020 economic recession, the industry can potentially redefine the way we judge financial institutions.
