Working with People Centric Data in the New Normal

Session Overview:

In this session from the 2020 GovComms Festival, Amir Aryani and Dr. Tom Verhelst discuss how COVID-19 has changed the function of data analytics, and how people-centric data will become the new normal.

Dr. Tom Verhelst is the Program Director of the Regional Innovation Data Lab at Griffith University. Amir Aryani is an Associate Professor at the Swinburne University of Technology.

Amir and Tom discuss how COVID-19 has changed how we look at data, and how it has forced an emphasis on people-centric data. Data has been the way the public measures the spread of COVID-19, as well as the effectiveness of different strategies to combat COVID-19.

Amir and Tom explain how COVID-19 has brought about a ‘new normal’ when it comes to data.

Amir also explains the Data CO-OP Methodology, a data collaboration tool that combines insights from data, domain experience and analytics capabilities. Data CO-OP is tailored to non-profit organisations and government that have the goal of producing social good.

After watching this video, you will be able to:

  • Understand how COVID-19 has changed the nature of data analytics, and how data has been used by government and other organisations during the pandemic.
  • Recognise the importance of people-centric data, and why it is the ‘new normal’ of data.
  • Understand the Data CO-OP model that translates data insights from a range of different sources into a package that is digestible by end users.
