Science Technology Australia–Superstars of STEM
contentgroup was engaged by Science Technology Australia to deliver social media training as part of their Superstars of STEM program. Superstars of STEM aims to challenge gender assumptions about scientists and increase the public visibility of women in STEM and ultimately work toward equal representation in the media of men and women in the space.
To help develop the first Superstars of STEM cohort of 30 female scientists into role models for the next generation of women in STEM, STA identified that social media and the ability for participants to craft, develop and promote their online profiles as critical.
Services
contentgroup developed a tailored social media training course for the Superstars of STEM participants and delivered it across four webinar sessions.
The training course used contentgroup’s research into the STEM space to ensure that the examples, statistics and exercises were tailored to the niche. The course covered all key social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram and dealt with issues such as responding to cyberhate, the importance of the editorial calendar and a step-by-step guide to developing a social media strategy.
As well as the webinars, contentgroup designed a workbook for participants to take away and use to further their skills. Following the webinars, the participants indicated that their confidence in publishing content online was up by 60% and they had succeeded in increasing their online audiences by 53% overall.
