True or false: Every company needs a social media presence

The power of digital and all of its assorted channels is undeniable.
If you’re a business with customers, those customers are on social media.
Which is why if I’m asked whether a company needs a social media presence; the answer will always be a resounding yes.
I don’t advocate the use of every one of the many social media channels. You would have read on this website before that we at contentgroup believe businesses should identify the channels that will work best for them and work hard to use them well and get the content right.
But being on at least one social media platform is simply non-negotiable.
We have all heard how digital and social media are changing the journalism industry. The change continues because these technologies give power and a voice to the consumer and because brands and businesses are feeling more empowered too.
Now every organisation can directly engage with their customer base. Social media allows businesses to control their message without having to spend a cent on advertising.
It also allows businesses to say what they want to say, whenever they want to say it. As media resources contract, it becomes harder to pitch a story to broadcast and print publishers than ever before. With social media, this publishing problem is gone.
From presidential election campaigns to movie promotions, social media is used to engage with an audience. Its effectiveness in doing so cannot be denied.
This direct engagement with those who buy your products or services is an opportunity businesses of the past could only dream of.
To be realistic, building an audience on social media takes considerable time and effort. Businesses cannot expect to be an influencer overnight.
But with persistence and a considered strategy, even the smallest business can use social media to help them achieve their goals and objectives.
Once you’ve thought about your approach, the best way to start is to dive in.
At contentgroup one of our values is the idea of “today today today”. Why not get started?
